Kids - Special Needs

It's no secret, Martial  Arts training is one of the most influential activities for the
development of children. For children  with special needs the structure and discipline is invaluable. Martial Arts training focuses on overall  personal improvement,  not sport or competition.

Martial arts training focuses on repetition and familiarity. Technique and improvement are developed at the students own pace, and built  upon weekly. This consistency and familiarity is perfect for children  with special needs. Children with special needs know what to expect on a weekly basis, this builds trust and a healthy learning environment. Martial Arts focuses on life-skills. Adding Martial  Arts into a child's life will help them thrive in every way.

Mayer's Karate has helped  hundreds of special needs children  improve the quality of their  lives. Improvements include FOCUS, CONCENTRATION, STRENGTH, COORDINATION, CONFIDENCE, SELF ESTEEM,  REDUCED ANXIETY,  BALANCE, and SPACIAL AWARENESS.

Mayer's offers a separate and highly specialized program geared to children  with special  needs. In addition Mayer's provides a team of highly experienced instructors who totally understand the needs and  behaviors of the children  and  families we serve.

Testimonials

Christopher can follow along in a group setting. He has learned to follow directions, and focus. I will never forget how excited he was when he was promoted to yellow belt. He was so proud of his accomplishment and shared it with everyone.

Since Owen joined Mayer's he has thrived in many ways. Owen is more social and outgoing. His  self esteem has soared, and his overall behavior and attitude has improved greatly. He was once described as an oppositional-aggressive, anti-social boy by more than one observer. Now, none of these adjectives depict Owen correctly. Enrolling Owen at Mayer's Karate & Fitness has proven
beneficial not only to him, but our family as well.

Our son has been attending Mayer's for the past 5 years. We are very excited about the progress he has made. The instructors work well with the children providing a good balance of instruction and encouragement. Mr. Harris specifically has worked with our son and has pushed him to discover his
potential. He is patient and understanding and adapts to the need and sometime mood of the child to get through and achieve the days lesson.

Let me begin by saying thank you. It's not easy finding a good program for physical fitness and disciplinary fitness for any child, yet alone a child with special needs. Our son has been with Mayer's for almost 2 years now. He looks forward to each session. He has shown great improvement in his physical abilities, he is most definitely enjoying each session, where he is working with the most compassionate, kind professionals. Thank you for making a difference
in his life.

I signed up my son to get him off the couch and start moving. His accomplishments have been phenomenal. He knows if he works hard he can achieve his goals. His upper body strength is incredible, and he is also having fun.

My 10 year old daughter has been attending Mayer's for approximately 8 months. She always looks forward to attending her sessions which is always a positive experience for her which is a testament to the quality of the program. My daughters instructor, David Harris does a great job with her ad he exhibits patience and instills discipline in her during her session. David challenges her
with a wide variety of exercises and skill based techniques while instilling confidence in her. I would highly recommend Mayer's to persons of all ages who are seeking a class for fitness, Karate skills, and discipline while in an enjoyable environment.

When our son started taking Karate he could not stand still or follow the simplest instructions. He was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. WE knew we could not enroll him into a traditional Karate school, so we began searching for a "special needs friendly" Karate program for him. We contacted Mayer's, and it seemed it was meant to be. Mr. Harris has committed every Sunday to him for the past 3 years. The level of commitment is impeccable. It has been rewarding watching our son progress over the years and rather amazing at the same time. Mr. Harris has an amazing special gift demonstrating a unique threshold of patience with his student, a great talent for recognizing the pace which he can learn and an outstanding ability to set the bar high and consistently pushing his limits without getting him angry or frustrated to the point of not wanting to participate, try new concepts, and learn. Hats off to the entire staff, you guys are great and we appreciate all you do for us.
