Our family’s journey with this dojo has truly come full circle. I was 11 years old when I first started training with Mr. Mark Mayer. From the very beginning he was more then an instructor; he was a mentor and a steady influence in my life. He pushed me to grow, taught me that goals are achieved through hard work and discipline, and instilled values that shaped me not only as a Martial Artist, but as a person. Nothing was ever handed to us; everything was earned. That lesson stayed with me.

I earned my black belt in high school along side Master Scielzo, and even though college, work and years of life in between, the dojo always felt like home.

My son began training at 4 years old, I stepped back onto the mat myself. I earned my second degree black belt. To come full circle, training alongside my children and reaching that milestone while they were students in the school, was incredibly meaningful for me.

Now watching my own children grow in the same environment is incredibly special. My son began training a 4 years old and, at 11, recently earned his junior black belt, a milestone that meant so much to our family because we understand the dedication behind it. My daughter started a 3 and a half, is now 5, and still walks into every class excited and eager to learn.

Enrolling them was never a question. Knowing the character of the leadership and remembering the impact the dojo had on my own life made the decision easy. Mr. Mayer was a father figure to me growing up, and many core values I carry into my own parenting were shaped within these walls.

Under Master Scielzo’s leadership, the dojo has evolved with the times while preserving its core values. The family atmosphere is still strong. My children feel supported, encouraged, and genuinely cared for not just by their Sensei, but by the entire dojo community.

The lessons learned here go far beyond self defense. Confidence, respect, leadership, resilience, and work ethic are woven into who they are becoming both inside and outside the dojo.

This is not just a martial arts school. It is a place that builds character, strengthens families, and shapes young people into strong, capable leaders.

We are proud to be part of this dojo family across generations.

Our family has been a part of Mayer’s Karate & Fitness since 2020, and it was one of the best decisions we have ever made. We initially enrolled our son, as we had heard great things about its special needs program. The growth we have seen in Liam as a student of the Dojo has been even more than we initially expected. He continues to look forward to his weekly lesson, and even now practices on his own without being asked to do so.

His progress and rise up the ranks inspired me to get into it. I initially was a member of the kickboxing class, but then transferred into the Tuesday/Thursday sessions. I love everything about it-the workouts, the camaraderie with Mr. Scielzo and my classmates, the fact that I am learning more each week, the occasional black and blue mark, and the confidence I continue to build.

When I started Karate, Liam and I joked that maybe one day we would be a father/son black belt tandem. That joke has turned into a dream, and I can’t wait for that day when that dream comes true.

Thank you to Mr. Mayer, Mr. Scielzo, Mr. Harris and Mr. Mignogni for everything. You’ve changed not just our lives, but those of many.

My daughter Cameryn has been attending Mayer’s Karate since she was 4 years old. Now that she has turned eighteen, I can truly say that this Dojo has shaped her into the incredible young lady she is today. While at the Dojo, my daughter learned self discipline, courage, perseverance, and many vital life skills. At a young age, the Dojo required that she help teach classes, and although hesitant, she agreed. After a few months, Cameryn was able to take up public speaking as well to build up her self confidence tremendously. She continues to teach weekly to children aged from three to fourteen years old. This has helped her to become comfortable talking to any age group, as well as parents. During classes she has worked incredibly hard throughout the years and continues to do so every week. On her journey to a black belt, she was never so sure of something other then this. This wasn’t an easy test, but she was determined to complete her goal. The sensai’s here along with her fellow classmates, pushed her to reach the best version of herself. She stayed disciplined, focused and determined throughout the entire process. She has used all of these important attributes in almost every aspect of her life, including school, work, sports, and much more.

However, this true dedication has never stopped for her. In June, Cameryn will be testing for her third-degree black belt. This is a huge accomplishment, especially because she will be the first female to receive a third-degree black belt inside the Dojo. We are so proud of everything she has accomplished along the way. This Dojo has showed my daughter that hard work truly pays off. Although she is heading to college next year, I am proud to say she has grown into a strong independent woman who will thrive wherever she goes supported by the meaningful skills and experiences she gained here. I want to thank Mr. Mayer, Mr. Scielzo, Mr. Harris and all of the other instructors who have helped my daughter to achieve her goals.

Our daughter Amelia has been training at Mayer’s Karate for almost five years and will be testing for her junior black belt this June. Her physical and mental strength, as well as her endurance, have grown tremendously. She truly loves coming to karate, and the pride she takes in her progress is inspiring to watch.

We are especially grateful to Mr. Scielzo for being a Sensei beyond what we could have imaged for Amelia. He has an exceptional ability to connect with his students, and the kids genuinely respond and respect his guidance in class.

We are proud of Amelia and look forward to watching her continue her Martial Arts journey at Mayer’s Karate.

Alexa Chazulle- A homage to the best dojo in the world-February 2, 2023

I have been a part of the dojo for more the 20 years. There is so much I can say about the dojo. Every time I walk through those doors, I feel right at home. Every class I attend is such an invaluable experience. I never fail to learn something new from those classes. The Senseis are one of the most important components of my karate journey. From Sensei Mayer, I learned to utilize my mind to overcome any obstacle that stands before me. From Sensei Scielzo, I learned to constantly push my limits. Last, but certainly not least from Sensei Harris, I learned to become more vocal about what I needed to succeed. Not only did I get the training necessary to become a black belt, but also the life skills to be a black belt everywhere I go. The dojo holds a special place in my heart, and always will.

Our daughter Amelia started karate at Mayer’s almost 2 years ago. Her confidence and growth have been incredible to watch. Mr. Scielzo teaches each class with a perfect combination of discipline and lightheartedness. Our daughter loves coming to karate class and she often practices her forms at home. She is testing for her Purple Belt this month but Amelia is fully committed to becoming a Black Belt someday. We look forward to seeing where Amelia’s future in karate takes her and we know we will be remaining a part of the Mayer’s dojo family for a very long time!

The Hanenberg family- February 8, 2023

Both of our sons attend Mayer’s Karate. Our 7 year old has been part of the school for almost 3 years, while our 3 year old is fairly new to it. Without a doubt we would highly recommend this school to parents who are looking for a safe, welcoming environment for their children.Aside from being active, and learning the skills of Karate and self-defense, our family has become a part of the fabric of the school. Our kids are welcomed and celebrated and taught above and beyond the physical part of karate, but also community, respect, discipline, and social responsibility. Another reason we, and our kids, love this school is because they have fun while they are learning real life lessons! We are so grateful to have found this school, especially Mr. Scielzo who clearly has a strong dedication to the success and development of our children.

We love Mayers Karate! Our daughter has been attending the dojo since last April and we couldn’t be happier. She is learning so many valuable skills and watching her confidence grow and shine warms our hearts and brings a smile to our face. This dojo makes us feel welcomed and Sensei Dan along with Mr. Harris and staff are professionals and make the time being there enjoyable for everyone especially for the kids! We are so happy to have found this dojo and will continue to recommend it to others!

I just want to share my appreciation to the trainers and instructors at Mayer’s. Its been really a tough go during Covid for our family as well as the families around us. Between the virtual classes and then the outdoor beautiful field at Grace Church the kids have been able to train all along. I can say this really helped our kids to feel like life was still ok. We are now indoors and sometime outdoors when the weather is really nice and between the socks and masks as well as the hand sanitation before and after class, we have no concerns. Also, a big thanks for the instructor discussions with the kids to keep them feeling like they can talk things out when they are feeling a bit confused or sad. Keep it up, we need this type of positivity in life as a family!

My 5 year old was shy and let everyone walk all over her. In 1 year, she is confident and sticks up for herself! Thank you!

My old stomping grounds. Great school with great instructors. I trained for many years there and I now have my own dojo in NM. Keeping the old school training alive!

My daughters are 7.5 and 5 years old. Mayer's Karate is an excellent place for first time students and advanced students. Both Mr Scielzo and Mr. Mayer are great with the kids. They make the class fun, exciting and challenging. It is a positive environment where the children are encouraged to do their best. I would recommend Mayer's Karate hands down.

I've been learning karate from Mr. Mayer & Mr. Scielzo for years. They are great teachers. They make the classes really fun when you're a kid and challenging as you get older. Families really look forward to their tournaments every year too. Its a cool dojo for girls like me!

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Mayer

I just wanted to say thank you for your generous gift certificates for St. Catherine’s Tricky Tray!! They will Make the recipients very happy. I also wanted to thank you for the beautiful trophies that you gave the students during the karate tournament. The girls were so happy to earn their first trophy and metal! I can’t say enough about Mr. Harris and Mr. Scielzo! They are truly exceptional, the way they engage the student’s while at the same time making it lots of fun. We are absolutely thrilled to be part of your “Karate Family”.

NEAKA KHALILIAN - 2019

Hi Mr. Mayer

I’m not sure if you remember me but my name is Neaka Khalilian and I was in your karate class when I was 5 and 6 and then moved to Texas. I’m now 21 years old and just finished playing my junior year of soccer for the University of Alabama. We were watching home videos of me in karate class with you and you guys had us doing some pretty cool stuff. I was thinking that maybe the reason I grew up to be a better athlete and made it to play in the SEC was because I had such A good base training with you guys in Karate! So I looked you guys up to see if you guys were still teaching so I could say thank you, for all that you taught me and for introducing me to the first sport I fell in love with.

Happy Holidays
